Straight from the source
The teddy bear cut (the kawaii style you've seen all over Instagram) comes out of Japan's pet salon culture, where grooming is treated as a craft closer to hairdressing than clipping. Sayaka trained in Nagoya in 1999 and groomed in Japanese salons before bringing the technique to Sydney.
Most "teddy cuts" in Australia are clipper cuts with a rounded face. The real thing is sculpted by scissor, shape by shape, and once you've seen the difference, you can't unsee it.

Bath and prep
A deep wash and full blow-dry-straighten: the coat has to stand up before it can be sculpted.

Hand scissoring, mostly. Round face, plush cheeks, soft rounded legs and topline, everything blended so it looks grown-that-way.

The reveal
The camera-roll moment at pick-up. Then a 4–6 week cycle keeps the shape; teddy coats grow out fast.

Wool and fleece coats hold the rounded shape best. If your dog is on this list, they were born for it. And if they're not, ask anyway.

Every 4–6 weeks to hold the shape, with a few minutes of brushing at home between visits. The rounder the style, the more the regrowth shows.
It takes longer than a standard clip, so it's priced accordingly. We'll confirm an exact quote from photos before your appointment. Most owners decide the pick-up moment is worth every cent.
